A comprehensive historical agency, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) collects, preserves and provides access to the archival resources of the State of Mississippi, administers museums and historic sites, and oversees statewide programs for historic preservation, government records management, and publication.
Mississippi state archives and public reading rooms are available through the MDAH, where documents, photographs, and other items from the collection are made available free of charge to the public. Collections, digital archives, the Historic Resource Database and more, are made available through the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. MDAH also focuses on programming, education, exhibits, and more, all while overseeing several museums throughout Jackson, Natchez, Port Gibson, Greenville, and Washington.
