Hill-Holly Building

300 N Farish Street | 769.216.2026

Initially named Hills Hall, the Hill-Holly Building was commissioned by Thomas Hill and built in 1913 by Francis Blair Hull, the notable owner of F.B. Hull Construction, formerly located on Capitol Street. The two-story brick building, of the “Classic Revival” style, sits in the heart of the Farish Street Neighborhood Historic District in Downtown Jackson, and is registered as both a Mississippi Historical Landmark and a National Historic Landmark.

The building serves as a testament to time; it survives the Jim Crow Era (1890-1965) and the Modern Civil Rights Movement (1954-1968), as well as urban flight and urban renewal. From 1983-1985 the Hill-Holly Building underwent a complete restoration, and is, today, overseen by the Holly Foundation.

The Hill-Holly Building is a repository for history and culture, and currently houses both permanent and revolving exhibits such as the Kermit Wells Holly, Sr. “The Unsung Hero” exhibit, the Farish Street Neighborhood Historic District: A Historical Overview, and Mississippi African American Families: A Pictorial History. The building also houses the Holly Foundation; the Holly Collection; Holly Enterprises, LLC; Sassa Frass & Honey (art, collectables, antiques, souvenirs, and gifts); and the J.McMichael Gallery.

The Holly Foundation is a non-profit, non-stock Corporation dedicated to educational and charitable pursuits, including improving the economic, social, civic and educational opportunities within the low-income community; decreasing unemployment and underemployment by providing business and economic development experiences for low-income and underprivileged citizens; and encouraging entrance into the science, humanities and arts professions. They promote the general welfare of society by offering scholarships to poor and underprivileged students who show great interest in learning. They provide and administer community service programs which contribute to the social, economical and civic development of the community.
