The 12th USA International Ballet Competition kicks off with Gertrude C. Ford Opening Ceremony, beginning with the Parade of Nations honoring the more than 20 countries represented by the competitors and jury. Accompanied by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the competitors take center stage as they represent their countries and the best of the ballet world. Following the ceremony, The Washington Ballet of competition alumni, led by Artistic Director Julie Kent, will perform company repertoire.

The USA International Ballet Competition – this is the stage, where the very best from around the world dance their way into legend, and every four years, the ballet world returns to Jackson, Mississippi. The USA International Ballet Competition (IBC) is a two-week “Olympic-style” competition for top young dancers and a major stepping stone toward a professional career. Competitors from all over the world vie for gold, silver and bronze medals; cash prizes; and company contracts. The audience is filled with company directors interested in hiring dancers. Dancers give their all, and it’s magnificent to see. During the 2018 USA IBC more than 44,000 people attended the performances and special events, generating a combined economic impact of $12.5 million for Jackson and the state of Mississippi.
