Music in the City is a monthly series presenting live performances of classical and traditional artists, generously sponsored by St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral. This month, join the Mississippi Museum of Art featuring Marta Szlubowska. 

Marta Szlubowska, a Polish violinist, is an active soloist, chamber musician, and a teacher. Ms. Szlubowska, a native of Warsaw, Poland, gave her first public performance at the age of seven at the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall. In 1983 Ms. Szlubowska came to the United States on a full scholarship to study at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she received Bachelor of Music and an Artist’s Diploma performance degrees. She received her Master’s in Violin Performance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst under the mentorship of Prof. Charles Treger. A winner of numerous awards and prizes in Europe and USA, Ms. Szlubowska has appeared as a soloist with the Mississippi Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Tacoma Symphony, and many others. She has given numerous performances at many music festivals around the USA such as Tanglewood and Colorado Music Festivals. Ms. Szlubowska has also served on the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival as well as the Marrowstone Music Festival. She has performed under the baton of Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa at Tanglewood, and Alexander Schneider at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  Ms. Szlubowska is currently on the faculty of the Millsaps College (as a member of the Mississippi Fine Arts String Trio, the Trio-in-Residence) and the Millsaps Conservatory of Music in Jackson, MS
