Join the Mississippi Museum of Art for a full day of activities, tours, music, and more as they celebrate the closing of Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé and Betye Saar: Call and Response. A general admission ticket or membership is required.
Schedule of activities:
10:30 AM: Storytime and Art Activity
Join Post-Baccalaureate Fellow, Grayston Barron, in The Art Garden as she reads Dancing Through Fields of Color: The Story of Helen Frankenthaler by Elizabeth Brown and Aimee Sicuro. Helen Frankenthaler (American, 1928-2011) was an Abstract Expressionist who, like Dusti Bongé, splashed her way through the modern art world. After our story, we’ll look at works by Bongé that use color to express emotion and host an art activity inspired by the story. This event is curated for young children and their parent/caretaker. 1-3:30 PM: Tour and Artist-led Studio Activity (maximum capacity is 15)
Be inspired by artwork in Betye Saar: Call and Response and Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé with our dynamic Teaching Fellows in a close-looking tour, and then learn embroidery techniques to create your own abstract work with local artist, Hannah Hester, in our studio classrooms. Registration is required. Each party can register up to two people. This event is for ages 15+. Register here.
3:30 PM: Final Exhibitions Tour (maximum capacity is 15)

4 PM: Happy Hour (cash bar)
Watermelon spritz is the official drink of summer and one you don’t want to miss! Join us in our toast to the closing of Betye Saar: Call and Response and Piercing the Inner Wall: The Art of Dusti Bongé. Yard games will be made available in The Art Garden.
