Event Details

Other Information

Join the Mississippi Museum of Art to celebrate the premiere of Jamea Richmond-Edwards’ film, Leviathan, commissioned for A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration. This roughly 20-minute film is a three-part suite that utilizes music and dance to unravel the migration story of Richmond-Edwards’ family.

In this special event, participants will hear remarks from Richmond-Edwards in A Movement in Every Direction, have a first viewing of Leviathan, and listen to a panel conversation with Richmond-Edwards, Detroit-based filmmaker Darren Brown, and Mississippi choreographer Chloe Crowley.

Art on Film is generously sponsored by the Ergon Foundation and is presented in partnership with the Crossroads Film Society.

Using the medium of film, Art on Film explores stories of the artists and art on view of permanent and temporary exhibitions on view. In this two-part series, we premiere two films commissioned by Jamea Richmond-Edwards and Akea Brionne for A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration. Each viewing will begin with gallery remarks and conclude with a panel discussion about the film.
