Researching your African American ancestors often comes with challenges. Join the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, along with the Two Mississippi Museums, on Saturday, November 7, for the virtual workshop Advanced Genealogy: Tracing Your African American Ancestors.
Joyce Dixon-Lawson, curator of research and genealogy, will share records and suggestions to help participants even when the trail seems to stop. Using the probate records, deed records, state and federal Census records, and personal diaries of former slave owners available at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, this workshop will encourage participants to think outside the box as they negotiate slavery’s legacy to find and name their ancestors.
The cost of the workshop is $10 per person and will be held virtually via Zoom. To register, click the link https://tickets.mdah.ms.gov/Info.aspx?EventID=12.
