THE MUSEUM TRAIL IS AN APPROXIMATE 5-MILE MULTI-USE TRAIL CONNECTING THE MISSISSIPPI FARMERS MARKET TO THE MISSISSIPPI AGRICULTURE MUSEUM, WITH ACCESS TO THREE PARKS AND SIX MUSEUMS ALONG THE WAY. THE TRAIL WILL CONNECT DOWNTOWN JACKSON TO THE LEFLEUR’S BLUFF STATE PARK, THE MISSISSIPPI MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCE, AND THE MISSISSIPPI CHILDREN’S MUSEUM. 2.5 MILES OF THE TRAIL WILL BECOME JACKSON’S FIRST “RAIL TRAIL” ALONG THE OLD GM&O LINE ON THE EASTERN BORDER OF THE BELHAVEN AND BELHAVEN HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOODS. ONCE COMPLETED, THE TRAIL WILL OFFER MORE ACCESS TO CULTURE AND NATURE THAN ANY TRAIL OF ITS KIND.
THE MUSEUM TRAIL WILL CONSIST OF FOUR PHASES. PHASE I OF THE PROJECT WAS COMPLETED IN LATE 2020, AND IS CURRENTLY OPEN AND AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. PHASE II IS EXPECTED TO BREAK GROUND AS EARLY AS 2022.
THE MUSEUM TRAIL IS AN EXAMPLE OF A SUCCESS STORY OF COMMUNITY COLLABORATION. ASKED AND ADVOCATED FOR BY CITIZENS, SUPPORTED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES AND CREATED WITH THE CITY OF JACKSON PAVING THE WAY, WALKERS, RUNNERS, BICYLE RIDERS, ROLLERBLADERS, NATURE LOVERS AND EXPLORERS OF ALL AGES, AND IN ALL PARTS OF THE CITY, WILL ENJOY THE PAVED SCENIC TRAIL, WHICH WILL INCLUDE SAFE PASSAGE OVER I-55 FOR NON-MOTORIZED USERS.
