FOUNDED UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF BISHOP DUNCAN M. GRAY, III IN 2005, ST. ALEXIS IS CONSIDERED A MISSION CHURCH OF THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH. THE VISION OF ST. ALEXIS INCLUDED SUPPORTING A CHURCH IN THE JACKSON METRO AREA WHICH MIGHT ATTRACT YOUNG ADULTS, THE UN-CHURCHED, AND THOSE ESTRANGED FROM TRADITIONAL CHURCH. FROM ITS VERY FIRST MEETING, ST. ALEXIS HAS SOUGHT TO SERVE AS A PLACE OF REFUGE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FELT ALIENATED FROM THE CHURCH IN THE PAST, OR AS A PLACE WHERE THOSE WHO STRUGGLE TO BELIEVE IN ANYTHING AT ALL MIGHT BE WELCOMED AND LOVED. THE CHURCH SERVES IN A UNIQUE, URBAN SETTING, AND ITS COMMUNITY IS DIVERSE IN AGE, RACE AND CIRCUMSTANCE. HOMELESS PEOPLE WORSHIP ALONGSIDE YOUNG FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN, PROFESSIONALS AND STUDENTS. THE CHURCH’S ‘STOREFRONT’ BUILDING INCLUDES A MAIN ROOM FOR WORSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP, A SMALL KITCHEN, AN OFFICE, A CLASSROOM AND A NURSERY. THE EXPOSED BRICK WALLS, DARK LAMINATE FLOORING, ROOF BEAMS, COLOR SCHEME, AND INDUSTRIAL LOOK OFFER AN INVITING ALTERNATIVE TO MORE FORMAL CHURCH SETTINGS.
