MISSISSIPPI HOME CORPORATION, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MUTEH, INC., CENTRAL MS CONTINUUM OF CARE, AND THE OPEN DOORS HOMELESS COALITION, HAS ANNOUNCED RAMP, A PROGRAM AUTHORIZED BY THE CARES ACT WHICH PROVIDES NEARLY $8 MILLION IN RENTAL ASSISTANCE FOR MISSISSIPPIANS STRUGGLING WITH FINANCIAL BURDENS. ON MAY 20, 2020, GOVERNOR TATE REEVES SIGNED SB2772 INTO LAW, ESTABLISHING THE BACK TO BUSINESS MISSISSIPPI GRANT PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO HOME OWNERS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR JOB OR EXPERIENCED A REDUCTION IN INCOME THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN DUE TO THE ECONOMY OR OTHER EVENTS AFFECTING THEIR EMPLOYER AND ARE AT RISK OF DEFAULT AND LOSING THEIR HOME TO A MORTGAGE FORECLOSURE. THE REFILL JACKSON INITIATIVE, A JOBS TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IN DOWNTOWN JACKSON WHO IS SUPPORTED BY THE HINDS COUNTY HUMAN RESOURCE AGENCY, JUST ANNOUNCED THEY HAVE RECEIVED A GRANT FROM OXFAM TO ASSIST FOOD SERVICE WORKERS WHO HAVE BEEN LAID OFF, TERMINATED, OR HAD THEIR HOURS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED BECAUSE OF COVID-19. THE MUSEUM OF MISSISSIPPI HISTORY AND MISSISSIPPI CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM ARE OFFERING A NUMBER OF OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE OUR COMMUNITY ONLINE. EACH TUESDAY MORNING, THE MUSEUMS WILL PRESENT HISTORY FROM HOME, A PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR FAMILIES FEATURING A STORY-READING OR INTERACTIVE ACTIVITY. TWO MISSISSIPPI MUSEUMS STAFF HAS CHOSEN SIX BOOKS TO DISCUSS AS PART OF THE TWO MISSISSIPPI MUSEUMS BOOK CLUB. AN ONLINE DISCUSSION OF THE BOOKS WILL TAKE PLACE EVERY TWO WEEKS AFTER THE BOOKS ARE ANNOUNCED. ON THURSDAYS, A TWO MISSISSIPPI MUSEUMS STAFF MEMBER WILL SHARE ABOUT AN OBJECT IN THEIR HOME THAT TELLS A MISSISSIPPI STORY.
